Coming soon to Chester Creek

Alaska DOT is proposing a $400 million highway through Anchorage parks and green spaces.

Take a 5 Minute Action

Here's how to say no to the highway through our parks.

Alaska Department of Transportation is studying ways to connect the Glenn Highway and Seward Highway. One of the plans under consideration is called Parkway Alternative D:

  • It would build a new 4-lane highway for about a mile through parks and undeveloped land in the Chester Creek Greenbelt area. See maps here.

  • Part of the highway would be on a viaduct over parks, trails, and the creek. (DOT provided the illustration above as an example of a viaduct.)

  • Another part would be on the ground through forest and wetlands in Sitka Street Park.

Anchorage can do better than moving traffic into our unique and accessible green spaces for recreation, wildlife, and parks. Please take a minute to submit a comment to DOT by Feb. 28, 2025. Be sure to reference Parkway Alternative D and your reasons for concern. You can find more information and commenting points in the facts pages of this site.
